The second book in this series is called Catching Fire and based on The Hunger Games here are some predictions on the second book: I believe that there will be controversy between Peeta and Gale, and a smattering of rebellion against the government.11CChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14319584585026341831noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7275935033145944704.post-72055966022992319032010-06-01T10:26:00.000-07:002010-06-01T10:47:29.692-07:00Head High 'Till I Die
I did research on a "rebel" in history that has shaped the way our society is today, the "rebel" I chose is Chief Joseph an Indian chief who lead his people against the U.S. Army to fight against oppression where his people were unfairly being rounded into reservations where they were expected to live off barely any supplies and even poorer conditions glog11CChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14319584585026341831noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7275935033145944704.post-8585809571065155002010-03-18T10:21:00.000-07:002010-03-18T10:43:28.628-07:00"The Crucible"John Proctor is caught in a whirl wind of mischief, and vengeance. There is a little bit of both in this book, where it is a little funny that so many people were accused of witchcraft just for owning large sums of land, and the other reasoning is that after the accusations start everything goes down the drain.11CChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14319584585026341831noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7275935033145944704.post-27794179388805595942010-01-21T10:37:00.000-08:002010-01-21T10:51:39.493-08:00Do What Needs To Be Done.
This Blog has been set up for my high school English class and has improved my sense of writing and my ability to pick out my mistakes. In the book Ishmael Beah has been sent to a reform camp after being taken from the Sierra Leone Army and starts to be haunted by the memories of all the killing and dead bodies he has seen. As a soldier he hides the weaker, more open kid inside him. The staff in the facility refuse to let him go through his life without opening up so they continue to tell him it not his fault for being the way he is and continue to trying to open him up. Ishmael himself wants to be the way he was before he was forced to snort lines and shoot rounds but he is so brainwashed he believes that it is impossible for him. In the movie the country of Sudan comes under a civil war between the northern and southern half's, the refugee boys who leave for freedom call them selves "the lost boys" of Sudan start with 28,000 boys and end with 12,000. The numbers dropped so much because as they were leaving they came under fire at separate times by soldiers and fighter planes.

In the book the country of Sierra Leone, at the same time, came under a civil war between groups of rebels and the government army and the main character Ishmael Beah's village gets attacked by rebels and is split up from his family, as he runs from the fighting he is haunted by the memories of the dead dieing bodies he saw as he ran. He continues to travel with a group of friends he finds along his way until he is brought in by the Government Army and forced to fight, kill and take drugs.

The similarities between the two of the stories is the the fact that the two different groups of boys had to run from the war there own country was waging on the people and on many time they had to fight to survive.11CChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14319584585026341831noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7275935033145944704.post-45818728967813319222009-12-07T10:46:00.000-08:002010-01-06T10:47:36.473-08:00"a long way gone" Text To The Movie "Lord of War""smoking marijuana and sniffing brown brown, cocaine mixed with gunpowder"
I made this connection to the movie Lord Of War because in the movie an Arms Dealer walked into a bar in Africa after making a deal and gets "brown brown" ordered for him by a soldier who is smoking weed behind him.11CChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14319584585026341831noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7275935033145944704.post-30713123102113010362009-11-24T09:52:00.000-08:002010-01-12T10:45:34.743-08:00Summary of The Absolutely True Diary of A Part-Time Indian
This story is about a boy named Arnold Spirit who lives on an Indian reservation and is fed up with his crappy life on the rez, with his 20 year old math books and the missionary teachers. Arnold chooses to go to a school outside of the rez. and finds that it is the hardest move of his life. He finds himself trying to cope with the hardships of his family members dying and the PURE! white school he needs to navigate.
In this book, I liked the fact that it showed how persistent Arnold was to get a better education and to fit in with his new world. I also liked how the book had cartoons to show a brighter side of the hardships Arnold had to go through.
I learned that it pays of the know who you are no matter how hard it is to get there. It also showed me that there are actually so many choices we have to live with every day.11CChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14319584585026341831noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7275935033145944704.post-32433157969464458942009-06-12T07:26:00.000-07:002009-06-12T07:49:08.125-07:00Thank you Mrs.Deraps
This year was actually very influential to me because I learned a lot about how I can get better grades on my writing projects. Mrs.Deraps made this year very fun with all her creative "artsy" projects, her humor that would make the most in depth "emo" kid laugh. I am very grateful that she was patient with my slow ability to comprehend why my papers were never 100% perfect, BUT now I know why. I will never forget this year and all the good, bad, funny, and especialy the ugly moments in Mrs.Deraps English class.11CChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14319584585026341831noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7275935033145944704.post-67817491903249210942009-06-12T06:54:00.000-07:002009-06-12T07:23:18.510-07:00Favorite Play
My favorite play that we read this year was Merchant Of Venice because we were able to act it out (and acting is fun) I rely got into the character I was playing and found that I rely could be creative with the script.11CChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14319584585026341831noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7275935033145944704.post-62797523220943932742009-06-12T05:57:00.000-07:002009-06-12T07:26:03.409-07:00My Writeing ProjectsThis year I stretched my thinking AND creativity this year was the vingette project where we were FORCED to use every ounce of creative thinking.
